i hate the ‘i don’t care’ attitude to sexuality and gender it’s just an excuse for straight ppl to excuse themselves from anything problematic without being directly phobic to queers

lavender brown gets more hate for how she handles unrequited romantic feelings than snape does and i find that incredibly disturbing

Also Cho Chang gets more hate for crying and grieving over the death of her boyfriend, than Snape does for literally abusing and terrorizing children because he couldn’t have Lily Evans.

Volume Control: Why Gay People Mute Themselves in Straight Society

johnpaulbrammer:

What makes statements like “I’m fine with gay people, I just wish they’d stop shoving it down our throats” so egregious is that, for a lot of us, muting our gayness is part of everyday life.

When straight people see a gay pride parade or a flamboyant gay man daring to exist in the public eye, they interpret it as gay people being “loud” about their sexual orientation. They interpret it as gay people reducing their identity to one trivial aspect of themselves and, therefore, gay pride and flamboyant gay men are trivial.

Their reaction is to shame gay people who participate in what they see as overcompensation, an unwarranted celebration for something that ought not be celebrated.

They think this way because, to a straight person who gets to carry their straightness wherever they go, including into public places, celebrating sexual orientation and sexual identity is outlandish.
